DISCUSSION
The Liberty XL2 is the
Next Generation training and touring aircraft. It has
incredible advantages (links to manufacturer's web site) over
other aircraft in its class. Highlights:
-
The fullly FADEC (Full
Digital Authority Digital Engine Control) controlled TCM IOF-240B
fuel-injected engine is the most advanced aircraft engine available for
certified aircraft. (Yes, finally, aircraft engines are
computer-controlled, like cars have been for a quarter-century.)
-
The fuselage is made
from the same Toray composites used on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Although it weighs just 70 lbs., the carbon fuselage is stronger than a
comparable aluminum fuselage. This light weight contributes to the XL2's
incredible energy efficiency.
-
The XL2 cruises at 120
knots (138 mph) on just 6.5 gph. If you slow to 113 knots (130 mph),
you'll get a whopping 23.6 statute miles per gallon; 105 knots yields a
whopping 25.7 mpg...no other certified airplane comes close to the
efficiency of the Liberty XL2!
-
The wings are removable
in only 10 minutes.
-
Unlike Light Sport
Aircraft, the Liberty XL2 was designed from the beginning to be both an
excellent touring aircraft and an excellent trainer, for both VFR and
IFR pilots and student pilots.
